REGION

The connection with the region

Sizzano is a small town with very ancient origins and lies at the foot of the Novara Hills in Upper Piedmont.

Viticulture in Sizzano developed on the eastern side of the Sesia valley, a long hill that extends on a north-south axis, a predominantly clayey plateau divided into two hilly strips.

The fame of Sizzano wine is due to the great Piedmontese statesman Camillo Benso Conte di Cavour, a great admirer of wines, who compared the Sizzano DOC to the great wines of Burgundy.

The novaresi hills

The Novara Hills are located in Upper Piedmont between two rivers: the Sesia, which descends from Monte Rosa, and the Ticino, which comes from the Gotthard mountains and gives rise to Lake Maggiore, then continuing up to the Po.

There are 25 municipalities where white wines from the Erbaluce grape and full-bodied, important and long-lived red wines are produced, obtained from native grape varieties, especially Nebbiolo, Uva Rara and Vespolina.

The favourable microclimate and  soil of morainic origin, made up of clays, sand and pebbles, make it particularly suitable for viticulture.

DOC e DOCG dell’Alto Piemonte

DOC and DOCG of Upper Piedmont

Upper Piedmont is represented by the DOC and DOCG denominations, an area shaped by the effects of the Supervulcano, and characterised by hills of great beauty, still partially waiting to be discovered by the variegated world of winelovers.

It has always been a territory suited producing wines of great quality and finesse. It is a land of small producers, who have been able to preserve and enhance the history of the local wine heritage.
